A Mighty Silverback of a Story
The One and Only Ivan was a great story by Katherine Applegate that left me feeling warm and fuzzy inside. The storyline was really engaging and I could have read it forever. Katherine Applegate wrote this story in verses so it’s a really easy read that you can finish in a couple of days. I would put this book at 4.5 stars because it was a great story and I enjoyed reading it. However, at some points I felt that the author could have put a little more into it because some of the chapters were really brief and only held a little bit of information. Overall, I would suggest this book to kids the age of 8 and up. Also, The One and Only Ivan was a 2013 John Newbery Medal winner! Yay, Katherine Applegate! The One and Only Ivan was a great book that I would highly recommend you take a look at.
So in this story a gorilla named Ivan is living in his domain at the Exit 8 Big Top Mall and is a mighty silverback. He goes on in life with his friends Bob the dog, Stella the elephant, and Julia the janitor's daughter. But one day the Big Top Mall gets a new resident, Ruby the baby elephant. Ivan befriends Ruby and Ivan’s creativity takes a turn and gives everyone a happy place in the end. This sweet story by Katherine Applegate is amazing.
