Surfs Up, Crenshaw!
Hi everyone! Sorry that I did not post anything last week. I was stuck at home and in bed with the flu. I’m all better now, but I just needed a week off. Anyway, the book I’m reviewing this week is Crenshaw! Crenshaw is another book by Katherine Applegate and similar to The One and Only Ivan. So, if you liked The One and Only Ivan and the sweet story that goes along with it, you will love Crenshaw. Crenshaw is an adorable story that I highly recommend you read and take a look at. This book is a high, 5 star recommendation that was on the master list for the William Allen White Children’s Book Awards. This book would be good for kids at the age of 10 and up because it was definitely an easy read that I was able to finish in a couple of days.
Crenshaw is about a boy named Jonathan that lives with his parents, sister, and adorable dog named Aretha. Yes, the dog is named after Aretha Franklin, just to keep that in mind. :) Anyway, Jonathan’s parents are struggling with money and this small family has had to live out of their minivan before. As the time goes by, Jonathan realizes that his long lost imaginary friend, Crenshaw, has come back for a visit. Now Crenshaw is no ordinary cat. This cat can surf! I know, right? Pretty awesome. Jonathan doesn’t want Crenshaw around because he is way too old for an imaginary friend and needs to be normal so no one thinks he is weird. As Jonathan’s time with Crenshaw stretches, he realizes that he needs to let the magic of friendship last a little longer than usual. I hope you enjoy the magic of Crenshaw and have a good weekend!
Happy Reading!
