Finding Your Way Home
Louisiana's Way Home is the sequel to Raymie Nightingale. This absolutely, stunning book is written by the unbelievable, Kate DiCamillo! She did such a good job on this novel, I don’t even know what to say. And I am not surprised that it was nominated for the Audie Award for Middle Grade. If you have not read Raymie Nightingale, then you should definitely read it before Louisiana's Way Home, just to get the background story and all the characters straight. If you are not familiar with Kate DiCamillo, I highly suggest you go check out her MANY books. For younger readers, Mercy Watson is a good start. Because of Winn-Dixie is classic and don’t forget Tales of Despereaux; both also made into movies. Louisiana's Way Home is a 5 star book that is just so engaging and captivating. I would suggest this novel for kids ages 10 and up.
(spoiler alert: if you have not read Raymie Nightingale, then stop reading this review!!!)
Louisiana's Way Home is about a girl named Louisiana who only has her grandma, friends, a cat, and a one eyed dog to depend on. One night, Louisiana’s grandmother has a “middle of the night idea” (she does that) which leads to an out of the state drive. Along the way, Louisiana learns how to drive and makes new friends with a boy, who carries a crow on his shoulder. Staying at the Good Night Sleep Tight Motel, Louisiana realizes she is destined for goodbyes, and due to a sudden tragedy, end up staying with the mysterious boy’s family. Soon enough she has made a new family and is welcomed into a small town of Georgia with a walrus-like minister, a rough motel owner, and the best prized cake maker. Join Louisiana in her story of ups and downs.
NOTE: Last summer, our local library hosted an author event with Kate DiCamillo. I had the opportunity to meet her and enjoyed hearing her stories. She is such a funny lady and dynamic reader. If you get the chance a meet her, TAKE IT!!!! Also, be sure to check in with your local libraries for upcoming author events.
Enjoy!
