Its A Grimm Kind Of Day
Happy Easter everyone! Sorry I did not post anything last week. We were celebrating Easter and all that stuff. This week I will be reviewing a series, and that series is The Sisters Grimm!!! I absolutely love this series of twisted fantasy books. That probably explains why this series has won the Oppenheimer Toy Portfolio Platinum Award and the Kirkus Best Fantasy Book Award! I only just started to pick up where I left off and it is so good! The author, Michael Buckley, provides a different perspective with his take on the Grimm fairy tales. If you are not familiar with The Sisters Grimm, Michael Buckley also wrote the Nerds series, Tibet, and Undertow. This series is perfect for kids 10 and up. I am giving this series a 5 star rating and I really suggest it to those who like fairy tale retellings.
Sabrina and her sister, Daphne Grimm, are related to the famous Grimm brothers. Their parents have no intention of showing them how dangerous fairy tales and magic can be. Suddenly, one day Sabrina and Daphne’s parents go missing. They jump from foster home to foster home until they fall into Ferryport Landing where their mysterious grandmother and her butler live. They don’t realize the people that live in Ferryport Landing are no ordinary people. They are fairy tale characters that are trapped in this town, or as they like to call themselves Everafters. Soon the Grimm Sisters find out that the town’s mayor is Prince Charming, the police force is controlled by the 3 Little Pigs, and the town’s only law firm is ran by Robin Hood and his Merry Men. Not only are the Grimm Sisters trying to find their parents but they are also trying to escape the grasp of the Scarlet Hand; an evil foundation of Everafters that are trying to take over the world. Help Sabrina, Daphne, their grandmother, Mr. Canis, and Puck (the Trickster King from A Midsummers Night Dream) defeat this Scarlet Hand and stay safe from the mayhem in Ferryport Landing.
