Once Upon A Grump
I just finished Grump a few days ago and adored just as much as the other books in the Fairly True Tales series by Liesl Shurtliff. She is such an amazingly talented author who writes the coolest books. Although, her newest series, Time Castaways, I was not so fond of. But I will reread it and post it soon. Anyway, back to the point, the Fairly True Tales are such fun books and great for kids who love adventures, fantasy, and maybe a little bit of mischief. :) All of these books are 5 stars and are good for kids and teens ages 10 and up. The Fairly True Tales are each based on a different fairy tale but in a way they are all connected. The fairy tales are Snow White and the Seven Dwarves (Grump), Jack and the Beanstalk (Jack), Rumpelstiltskin (Rump), and Little Red Riding Hood (Red). But today I am going to be reviewing just Grump.
In Grump, the story focuses on one dwarfling, born near the Earth’s surface, named Borlen. All dwarflings are born underground, so right away we know Borlen is special. As Borlen grows up to be an older dwarfling he find a love for The Surface, a place where dwarves are banned from going. His parents encourage him to make friends deeper down in the caverns but Borlen always feels ill the farther down he goes. One day his parents announce that he will finally be joining a crew. This means that he will be working down in the mines, and of course, he gets put in the tunnel that is the farthest down. As his crew is mining away Borlen secretly mines through the dirt and rubble and out to The Surface. He somehow meets the royal queen of the land, Queen Elfrieda Veronika Ingrid Lenore, and they become best friends. But little does he know that making friends with this Queen E.V.I.L. is a big mistake. Help Borlen on his adventure to The Surface and all the obstacles that come with it.
Happy Reading!
