Heading west, ya'll!

Today I will be reviewing an amazing book called (take a deep breath), Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus. The author of this novel is Dusti Bowling. When I read the author description in the back of the book, I had never heard of her before but she also wrote The Day We Met and The Boy Who Loved Me. I was just browsing the library one day when I came across the Mark Twain nominees and Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus was one of them. So, yay!!! I would rate this novel 5 stars and would be good for bookworms out there ages 10 and up. I really, really enjoyed this book and thought it was such a great read. If you are a fan of Mascot by Antony John or Restart by Gordon Korman, then you will absolutely enjoy Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus.☺

Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus is about a girl named Aven Green who was born without arms and adopted by a loving couple in Kansas. At Aven’s elementary school she was always treated just like all the other students, because everyone was used to her not having arms. (Aven and her friends especially had fun pulling pranks on substitute teachers and new kids). But, one day her parents get a call from a theme park in Arizona called Stagecoach Pass. This theme park needs a new manager and Aven’s parents decide to take the job. So, they pack everything up, make the 16 hour drive to Arizona, and move into the managers apartment at Stagecoach Pass. This also means that Aven with have to start a whole new school in the middle of 8th grade. She feels fine about her armless-ness but gets nervous as her first day of school arrives. Around Stagecoach Pass, there is little to no talk about the family who owns the place, the mysterious Cavanaugh's. Aven is determined to solve the mystery and possibly even learn something from her past. Help Aven make new friends, take on bullies, and maybe even answer the question: Who are the Cavanaughs?

Happy Reading!

NOTE: There is a sequel to Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus titled Momentous Events in the Life of a Cactus. I will read it and post it soon. Thank you!
