A ray of Sunshine!
Earlier this week I finished The Remarkable Journey of Coyote Sunrise, and it was A. Maze. Ing. A few of my friends had read this book and said it was really good but right now I am saying that it is amazing! Everything about it was good, there is nothing that I would change. The main character in Coyote Sunrise is a 12 year old girl named, you guessed it, Coyote Sunrise. The author, Dan Gemeinhart, did such a phenomenal job on writing this book from a female perspective. He wrote this novel with so much character that everything about this book spoke Coyote Sunrise. This more than a 5 star book, it’s a 10 star book! This is a good book for kids ages 12 and up due to a little bit of language. This language was nothing to terrible and it wasn’t directed towards anyone in a mean way but there was something here and there. Otherwise, this was one of the best reads of the summer for me so far.
Coyote Sunrise was about a girl named Coyote and her dad, Rodeo, who live on an old school bus that they have converted to their home. In their bus, they travel all over and because her dad is a complete hippy, they only use maps. No GPS AND no air conditioning! Five years ago Coyote’s mom and two sisters died in a tragic car accident. Being taken over by grief, her dad changes their names, sells everything, and hits the road in an old bus they call, Yager. Every Saturday Coyote calls her grandmother but one Saturday her grandmother has news. BIG news. The park near Coyote’s old house, the park where Coyote, her mom, and two sisters buried a memory box full of drawings, notes, and even locks of hair, is going to be torn down! Coyote is determined to get over there without Rodeo knowing because she knows that if he hears what she is planning, he will turn back and drive the other way. Along the drive they pick up a few passengers. Lester, who wants to play his music; Salvador and his mom who want to start over; Val, who wants her parents to understand who she is; and Gladys, I’ll let you figure that one out. Join Coyote, Yager and friends on a “remarkable journey” as she tries to get to the memory box in time. I hope you enjoy this spectacular book!
Happy Reading!
