Karate Chop!

Why should you watch out for a pig that knows karate? Give up??? It might give you a pork chop! Ha ha ha! This week I will be reviewing the 2010 remake of The Karate Kid! I have not seen the original with Mr. Miyagi and Daniel, so I have nothing to compare it to. This movie is family friendly and I would suggest it to families with kids ages 9 and up. Of course there are some fight scenes, but it is called the Karate Kid after all! This was definitely a 5 star movie coming from someone who has not seen or knows anything about the 1984 original.

In this remake, Jaden Smith plays Dre Parker, a 12 year old Detroit native. Dre and his mom, played by Taraji P. Henson, move to China because of his mom’s new job. Dre finds Chinese culture a bit of a shock but soon befriends, Mr. Han, played by Jackie Chan. He did such a good job with the movie. All of his fighting scenes were comical and entertaining and really great to watch. This was such a treat! Having not seen the original, I didn’t know what to expect. I thoroughly enjoyed the modern twist of this 80’s classic remake. Fun Fact: This movie was produced by Jaden’s parents, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith. I would suggest this to families who are looking for something new to watch. Give it up for The Karate Kid!
