What if you Could Live Forever?
Today I will be reviewing the one-of-a-kind, classic novel, Tuck Everlasting. Whenever I first opened this book and read the preface, I shut it and read a different book. I thought that, because it was written in 1975 that it would be like reading Shakespeare. I was wrong. Once I finally picked it up again, I loved it. It was absolutely amazing. I think I even spent a whole day reading it because I couldn’t put it down! Just to prove my case,Tuck Everlasting won the Newbery Honor and Christopher Award. It was also made into a movie by Walt Disney in 2002. The author, Natalie Babbitt, is an award-winning author of many American classics such as The Eyes of the Amaryllis, Kneeknock Rise, and The Search for Delicious. Most of her books contain her love of writing magical tales. Tuck Everlasting was not only magical but also a book about making choices, family, and love. Aside from the mention of a man being killed, this novel is appropriate for any young reader at the age of 10 and older. I would rate this book 5 stars and would suggest it to any ready who enjoys a nice heartfelt story with lots of meaning and character.
Tuck Everlasting is about a young 10 year old girl named Winnie Foster who stumbles upon a small trickling river in the woods near her house. Little does she know this is a magical stream that if you drink from it you will live forever. After drinking the water nothing can harm or kill you; not a bullet, blade, or wild animal. Before she’s able to take a sip a teenage boy named Jesse Tuck, stops her. In order to protect the secret of the water, Winnie is taken to Tuck’s home and stays with them for the night. Winnie quickly becomes friends with Jesse, his older brother Miles, his mother Mae and their father who is simply called, Tuck. However, soon the family is threatened and the secret of the magic water could be uncovered. Grab a copy and find out what happens to Winnie and the Tuck family in Tuck Everlasting.
