Superhero or Villain?
Today I will be reviewing another amazing book series by Marissa Meyer. I am so glad that so many of you enjoyed my Cinder, and I hope you will be able to enjoy this Marissa Meyer series as well. The Renegades series is a twist between futuristic dystopian and classic superhero adventure. If you are a fan of the recent superhero/villain movies or enjoy action packed comics, this a great summer series for you! The books are pretty long (Renegades is 576 pages) so be prepared for some time commitment. Due to some mild language, violence, a little romance, and LGBTQ topics, this book is more appropriate for older tweens and teens. The characters are bold and well written but when I read book #2, Archenemies, I felt the plot became a little slow and wordy. Renegades however moved quickly along and kept me entertained throughout the whole book. Supernova, the 3rd and final book, redeemed the series and, in my opinion, was the best of the three. Regardless, I still give Renegades 5 stars and encourage you to check it out!
Renegades starts with a tragic beginning in the city of Gatlon where superheroes and villain gangs are at war. They call it the Age of Anarchy. Nova is a young child when her mother, father, and baby sister are all killed by a hitman from a villain gang, the Roaches. All this time the Renegades, a government group of superheroes, promised to protect her family. But did they? No. As Nova grows up with her uncle, Ace Anarchy, the leader of the Anarchist, and his group of rebel villains, she is raised to hate the Renegades. Flash forward 10 years and the Anarchists and Nova have come up with a plan to destroy Captain Chromium, head of the Renegade council, and his band of superhero warriors. Their plan fails so Nova, or Nightmare (her Anarchist name), has no choice but to disguise herself and go undercover as a Renegade. Lines become blurred between friend and enemy as Nova grows closer to her Renegade patrol unit. Adrian, the son of Captain Chromium, starts to care deeply for Nova, causing her to be blinded by love. Will Nova stay committed to her uncle’s cause and her Anarchist family? Or will she see being good is….well...good? Find out in Marissa Meyer’s Renegades superhero series.
Happy reading,
