Tip Your Hat for this Amazing Musical!

First off, I would just like to say Happy Father’s Day to all of the amazing dads out there! Today, I will be reviewing the long, lost classic, Top Hat. Starring the famed duo Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, Top Hat is brought to life with their amazing dance routines and catchy musical numbers. Top Hat definitely deserves a place up with Singin’ in the Rain, Easter Parade, and the Gene Kelly classic An American in Paris. Top Hat is an understated 1935 classic that is perfect for a lazy night in. This movie is completely family friendly with only a little bit of old-film romance and heated arguements. I felt that this film was well thought out, clever, and funny. Top Hat was awarded an Oscar for Best Picture as well as Best Art Director, Original Song, and Dance Director. I cannot express how good this movie is! The dresses and costumes, designed by Bernard Newman, were fantastic. Many of the dancing scenes included beautiful, flowy dresses worn by Ginger Rogers. One even had a full bodice of dyed ostrich feathers! This movie is a full on 5 stars and would be appropriate for kids ages 11 and up. I highly recommend this classic film to families and anyone who wants to try something new.

Top Hat is about a young American entertainer named Jerry Travers (Fred Astaire), who is visiting London in preparation for his new show. He is staying with his business manager and producer, Mr. Horace Hardwick (Edward Everett Horton), and they never seem to be at the right place at the right time. In the very same hotel, there is a wealthy American woman named Dale Tremont (Ginger Rogers). She is in London visiting her good friend Madge, who happens to be in Italy on holiday, and her husband, who Dael has not yet met. Coincidentally, Madge’s husband is Jerry’s business manager, Mr. Hardwick. Miss Tremont starts to fall in love with Jerry until there is a mixup and she thinks that Jerry is Madge’s husband! She tries to stay away from Jerry and the drama that seems to follow but simply can’t. With other mistaken identities and laughable dilemmas, Top Hat is a fun-filled, classic comedy. Find out what happens to Dale and Jerry in Top Hat!

Enjoy the show,

Evelyn Harrier
