A New 2020 Movie!

Today is a rare occasion as I am reviewing a new movie! As most people are talking about the newly released 2020 live action Mulan, I decided to jump on the chance and review it. To be honest, I was quite disappointed. Even though this movie was fantastic in its own way, it did not follow the original animated movie at all. There were very few similarities that I felt took away from the bar that was set from the first one. For example, in the 2020 version, the film-makers decided to cut all of the original songs, the beloved dragon, Mushu, and the warrior love interest, Shang. They also decided to take a twist on the story and add a Chinese “witch” who used the ancient Chinese art, Chi. I also want to point out that in the end battle scenes when it seemed pointless to Mulan to keep her character as a boy, she let her hair down. Through all of the battle her hair magically stayed perfectly curled and clean. Wow. My mind was blown, I wish my hair could do that! Overall, I was disappointed that Disney did not keep the original Mulan story, but that does not take away that it was still a good movie. The suspense and acting was great. The actress who played Mulan, Liu Yifei, did 90% of her own stunts. This includes fighting scenes, horseback riding, and things that I could definitely not do. Everything was done very well. I still don’t think that it could compare to the original or other Disney live action remakes, but I would still encourage you to watch anyway. I would rate this movie at 4.5 stars and recommend it for kids ages of 10 and up. This movie would be great for all families who enjoy a twist on a classic!

Enjoy the show,

Evelyn Harrier
