One Cold Alaskan Day...
Today I am going to be reviewing the amazing stand-alone novel, Not if I Save You First. A couple weeks ago, my friend gave me this book to read. She said it was one of the best books she has ever read and I agree with her. Ally Carter’s, Not if I Save You First, was a definite 5 star novel that was thrilling and exciting to read. This young adult novel had the perfect balance of action, romance, and teenage sarcasm. Both of our mothers read it and enjoyed it all the same. The story seemed a little far-fetched and unbelievable, but it was fantastic nonetheless. I would recommend this read for teens ages of 13 and up. There was quite a bit of smoochy-smoochy between characters, but that didn’t happen until later in the book. Overall, this novel was fantastic. There was only one thing I would complain about. The main characters, Maddie and Logan are best friends. Logan calls Maddie “Mad Dog” as a nickname. Not If I Save You First, starts with a flash-forward and then goes ahead 7 years. Still Logan calls Maddie “Mad Dog” and I found it quite annoying. I don’t think a book has ever made me annoyed before and I was surprised that this one did. Aside from that small flaw, Not if I Save You First, by Ally Carter was a phenomenal read that I suggest to all teenagers and adults.
Not if I Save You First, is about two best friends. Correction: two former best friends. The story follows a girl named Maddie. Her dad is the President of the United States most trusted security agent. The President’s son, Logan, was Maddie’s best friend. That is until a terrible accident sends Maddie and her father to Alaska, leaving the memory of her perfect life in Washington, D.C. far, far behind. In Alaska, there are more things that can kill you than in Washington, D.C., even if your dad is the head of security, so why did they move? Maddie could never get a clear answer out of her father and it has stayed that way ever since their arrival. Their new home is less of a house and more of a shed. For the first few years, Maddie wrote a letter to Logan every day, but no response ever came. Seven years after leaving, her past suddenly falls from the sky. Literally. One cold Alaskan day (aren’t they all cold?), a plane arrives outside Maddie's glorified shed and out comes none other than the president’s son and two security agents. Will Maddie be able to survive having Logan back? Even when she’s so mad at him for not responding to all her letters? Find out, in Not if I Save You First!
Happy reading,
