Sense, Sensibility, and a Great Movie

Today I will be reviewing a fabulous movie based on a classic Jane Austen novel, Sense and Sensibility! This 1995 film recreation was absolutely stunning. The filming was so beautiful as it was shot in the hills of the English town of Devon. Sense and Sensibility even won a 1996 Academy Award for Best Cinematography. When my mom suggested that we watch this movie, I was doubtful at first. I was afraid that it was going to be boring and hard to understand, but that quickly changed. The humor, romance, and quick moving plot make this movie a one of a kind. The actors and actresses that play in this film did a brilliant job of acting in a completely different time period; in this case the early 19th century. Some of these starring actors include Emma Thompson (Nanny McPhee, Harry Potter), Hugh Grant (Paddington), Alan Rickman (Harry Potter), Kate Winslet (Titanic), and Imelda Staunton (Harry Potter, Maleficent, Paddington). To add on to all of the amazing-ness, the soundtrack of Sense and Sensibility was composed by Patrick Doyle. Patrick Doyle has done tons of movie compositions including the 2015 remake of Cinderella, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, and Disney’s Brave. His score for Sense and Sensibility was just as beautiful and impressive. I would rate this movie at a billion stars if I could, but I think we will have to stick with 5 for now. If you are 10 and up I would recommend this movie for you! This film is great for families and those who have already read the original novel.

Sense and Sensibility is about three sisters. Eleanor, the eldest, is very compassionate, calm, and private. She is not one to go spilling her feelings for everyone to hear. The next youngest sister, Marianne is a romantic who fantasies about Shakespeare and finding the perfect love. Finally, there is Margaret. Unlike her older sisters, she is a wild child. You can find her outside running around and scrounging through an atlas searching where she should travel next in her imagination. When family trouble arises, the three sisters and their mother are forced to leave their large estate and move into a small cottage far away from the home they love. Friends, family, and loved ones go by in a blur as Eleanor and Marianne face their own challenges in the chaos of finding love. Find out what happens to Eleanor, Marianne, and Margaret in Sense and Sensibility!

Enjoy the show,
