Off to Neverland
Before I start today’s review, I wanted to say Happy Belated Thanksgiving! I hope everyone was able to have a good Thanksgiving this year, with or without family. I also want to apologize for all of the spontaneous posts. I have been super busy with school and studying lately and have not been able to write as many posts as I would like. Today I will be reviewing the fantastic twisted fairy-tale Tiger Lily. This novel is a spin on the well-known story, Peter Pan. At first, I was not going to read Tiger Lily because the beginning was incredibly slow and was too wordy. However, I gave it a second chance and I absolutely loved it. I found it incredible how the author, Jodi Lynn Anderson, was able to twist this story in such a way that it would make sense with the original fairy tale! I felt that Tiger Lily could almost have been a prequel to Peter Pan. What I found most interesting, is that the author was able to surprise me in unexpected ways. There would be twists and turns throughout the chapters so good that I could not tell what was about to happen! Jodi Lynn Anderson really brought this story to life. As you can probably tell with all of my praise, this is a definite 5 star novel. Tiger Lily did have a bit of brief smoochy-smoochy and detailed fights, kidnapping, etc (I mean, pirates! What can you expect?). I would suggest this novel to kids ages 12 and up. I highly recommend Tiger Lily to those who love a good twisted tale with a little bit of romance.
Tiger Lily is told from the perspective of the faerie we all know as, Tinker Bell. Tink likes to spend time in the village of a Neverland tribe called the Sky Eaters where there is a strange girl named Tiger Lily. She is, of course, beautiful in her own way, but you would be more likely to find her hunting in the woods than embroidering a pair of moccasins with the other girls. She is a free spirit and some would call her an outsider. Once Tiger Lily reaches the age of 15, she is forced to marry a man in her tribe that is as smart as a rock, literally. But, Tiger Lily realizes that she loves another. You may have heard of him, Peter Pan. Through mishaps and heartbreaks, Tink watches Tiger Lily grow in not only beauty, but as a person. Find out what happens to Tiger Lily, Peter, and the rest of the lost boys in Tiger Lily!
Happy reading,
