Fables and Fairy Tales
Fable:
Good morning! I want to sincerely apologize for the lack of posts last month. I got super busy with school and was not feeling motivated to write. But today I am back with another book review! Today I am reviewing Fable: A Novel. Fable is the first book in a duology by the fantastic author Adrienne Young. She has written The Sky in the Deep series and The Girl the Sea Gave Back. Adrienne Young’s books are whimsical and nautical unlike any author I have ever seen before. Fable, mostly taking place on a traditional sailing boat, made me research more about sailing and what you would call pirate-style ships. I found it rather interesting to learn about and made me realize there is a true art to sailing boats. I thought that Fable’s story was a fresh new idea and was good enough to be nominated for the Goodreads Choice for Best Young Adult Fantasy and Science Fiction Awards. I would rate Fable at 5 stars and suggest it for readers at the age of 13 and up. There is a bit of piraty violence and smoochy smoochy, but that doesn’t happen until the end. I don’t have enough words to describe how good and clever Fable was. I highly suggest you give Fable a try especially if you want a new, whimsical read!
Fable takes place in a country where drunks, merchants, and sailors try to fight for a living. On a small island of thieves and traitors across a stormy sea lives a girl. Fable, only seven years old, was left on this treacherous island by her father, Saint, one of the best traders in all of the Narrows. Saint left Fable with five rules. 1. Keep your knife where you can reach it. 2. Never, ever owe anyone anything. 3. Nothing is free. 4. Always construct a lie from the truth. 5. Never, under any circumstance, reveal what or who matters to you. These rules are what kept Fable alive all of these years. Now, almost 10 years later, she is still scraping by to survive when trouble hits and she is forced to flee with a small trading boat, The Marigold. West, the young captain of The Marigold agrees to take Fable to the other side of the Narrows in trade for coin and hard work on the ship. With the perfect touch of action, adventure, pirates, and romance, Adrienne Young brings Fable to life. Give Fable a read to find out what happens to Fable, West, and the rest of the crew!
Happy reading,
Evelyn Harrier
P.S. If you enjoy Fable, the next book, Namesake is coming out in March of 2021!
