Chasing a Mystery...
Four Dead Queens:
When I pick out books to read, I tend to gravitate towards historical fiction, realistic fiction, fantasy, and the occasional dystopian. So when a friend recommended Four Dead Queens, a futuristic murder mystery, I was skeptical. I am and never have been a fan of gory or bloody subjects. Even medical TV commercials give me the heebie-jeebies. However, this extraordinary novel proved me wrong. With absolutely no bloody or gore, Four Dead Queens still brings the nail-biting tension a classic murder mystery would. The way Astrid Scholte structured Four Dead Queens was brilliant. With thrilling suspense and excellent strategy, I couldn’t put this book down. Four Dead Queens has been nominated and/or selected for over 10 different awards which can be viewed on her website. Considering Four Dead Queens was the author’s very first novel blew my mind. Astrid Scholte has actually worked in the film industry most of her life. This includes working on the movies Avatar, The Adventures of Tintin, and Happy Feet Two. Four Dead Queens is such a great read, I don’t have enough words to express how great of a book it is. This novel is a solid 10 out of 5 stars and suggested for readers ages 13 and up. Everything mentioned is appropriate except for occasional language and brief (honestly I felt that it was a bit unneeded) LGBTQ+ content. I highly recommend Four Dead Queens, to any lover of dystopian worlds, mysteries, and enemies turned friends.
Four Dead Queens follows the pickpocket mastermind of Keralie Corrington as she scouts the streets of Quadara for valuable treasures. However, one day, Mackiel, her “boss” instructs her to steal a case of comm chips from a messenger, Varin. Comm chips are edible memory devices that can show memories. When Keralie successfully has the case of comm chips in hand, she has no clue what dangerous and mysterious adventure she has just started. With Varin at her side, Keralie sets out to solve the mystery of the four dead queens.
Happy reading!
